RUNNERS WILL BE RACING TO GET THEIR PLACE AT THE GREAT WELSH MARATHON

Runners from all over Wales and beyond will be excited to learn that the Great Welsh Marathon will be back!  The race, which has been a long established event on the running calendar, has recently been adopted by Front Runner Events.  The Front Runner events team are the organisers behind the hugely successful JCP Swansea Half Marathon, which is a firm favourite amongst the running community and attracts up to 8,000 runners worldwide.

David Martin-Jewell, managing director said:

“We are very excited to be taking over the management of the Great Welsh Marathon and aim to deliver a fantastic event for everyone.  We are limiting the number of entrants to just 500 for the marathon and 500 for the half marathon.  This will be an exclusive event, offering a unique opportunity to be part of a race that is very special to Wales.”

The race will take place at 9:00am on Sunday 7th May starting and finishing at Festival Fields, Llanelli.  The course is set within the Millenium Coastal Park and offers runners a chance to participate in one of the flattest races in the UK.  Anyone familiar with the area will know that the Coastal Path overlooks Llanelli Beach, and has breath-taking views of the Loughor Estuary and Gower Peninsula.  Being strictly limited by numbers means the race is expected to sell out fast and offers those who missed out on a place in London, to run a marathon right here in Wales.

On race day, runners can expect a great event that will be fully marshaled along the coastal path and on closed roads.  There will be water stops on the route and at the end, thanks to hydration partners Brecon Carreg.  To add to the offering organisers will be providing energy gels, a bespoke medal, finishers t-shirt and goody bag to all who complete the race.  Entry is just £40 for the marathon and £30 for the half marathon (plus booking fees).

The flat course is perfect for runners taking on their first long distance race, or for those chasing a PB.  With entry open now, anyone interested in taking part should register his or her place today.  Entries are being snapped up quickly so to get your place or find out more information on the Great Welsh go to: www.greatwelshmarathon.co.uk
