The Great Welsh Marathon Returns With A Bang After a 1092 Day Absence

By | Latest News | No Comments

It was the first event of the year for the team at Wales’ largest independent mass participant running organisation and what an event it was! With near perfect running conditions on the day, it was hailed a great success, with both male records smashed in the marathon and half marathon events by Cardiff Triathlete, Oliver Webb and Swansea Harrier, Dewi Griffiths.

Today was the first time the event has been held since 2019 and after a 1092-day absence. Organisers were delighted to be able to stage it today at the incredible Pembrey Country Park. Tash Smith, Race Director said:

“It felt great to be back doing what we do best! It’s been a long time for us waiting in anticipation for this event and despite this being one of our smaller races it is definitely one of my favourites! Our volunteers pulled together fantastically after such a long time away from delivering this event and I’m proud to say they were brilliant. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings for our team, and I look forward to staging this again in 2023.”

In addition to the course records being broken, there were hundreds of PB’s reported at this fast and friendly race. Runners enjoyed a fantastic route that offered the very best of coast and country, with miles of beach and woodlands that seemed to set them on their way to hitting their best times.

Events like ours have been sorely missed by athletes and fun runners alike. It’s a time when everyone can come together to achieve something very special, and I feel honoured to be part of it. I am excited to be adding to our calendar of events this season and I look forward to delivering our next event at Swansea in June.”

Entry Re-opens For 1 Week Only!

By | Uncategorised | No Comments

We are excited to announce we are able to reopen entry to the great Welsh Marathon and Half Marathon Events.

There are only LIMITED places available and as a result, entry will be open for 1 week only. We are re-opening because:

  1. We know how disappointed some runners are at not getting their entry in the ballot to run London Marathon – so we wanted to give our runners a chance to still enjoy a great atmosphere and be part of an event in Wales that covers the distance!
  2. A number of our runners have contacted us to see if we still have places left, so to help meet this demand we have re-opened for this limited time.
  3. The future of our event – all our events have been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the new Brexit measures which have come into place. Although confidence in large scale events is slowly coming back our road to recovery will be a long one and by reopening entries your participation will mean that we are able to rebuild our events into the future and ensure you have that same great experience you always have had.
  • Entry will open on 15th March and close at 5pm on 22nd March 2022.
  • Please note that you should only take part in this event if you are physically able to run, jog and walk continuously for 26.2 miles in the marathon event and 13.1 miles in the half marathon.
  • There is a cut off time of 6 hours for the marathon and 4 hours for the half marathon.
  • Entrants who sign up during this period will be able to collect their race packs on the morning of the event from the Race Information Point.
